Radio Golf

“The brilliant production by Pittsburgh Playwrights…shouldn’t be missed…. Actor Roosevelt Watts Jr., … a towering and charismatic presence, is mesmerizing as he becomes undone in the pursuit of the right path…. Pittsburgh Playwrights Theatre Company has crafted the must-see show of the summer.”
– Alexis Papalia, TribLive

By August Wilson
Directed by Montae Russell
Outdoors at August Wilson House
August 10 – September 14 2024
Friday & Saturday at 8 PM, Thursday & Sunday at 7 PM
Indoor Saturday matinees, 2 PM at Madison Arts Center

“The company’s adeptness at embodying both the rhythms and cadences of Wilson’s language and the Pittsburghness of his character’s attitudes leaves the impression that they are tapping directly into the bloodline of history.”
– Wendy Arons, Pittsburgh Tatler

A coproduction with

Real estate developer Harmond Wilks is determined to become the first black mayor of Pittsburgh, on a mission to revive his blighted childhood neighborhood. As Wilks confronts characters from the past, he is forced to question how pursuing change could put his neighborhood’s history at risk.

“Actor Roosevelt Watts Jr. … radiates confidence and bravado, uncertainty and desperation…. Michael Traylor plays befuddled so believably, you can’t blame the partners for dismissing Old Joe Barlow, at least at first…. Maurice Redwood is a terrific match for Sterling’s volatile temperament, philosophical one moment and righteously hostile the next. [A] looming showdown of aspirations vs. values.”
– Sharon Eberson, onStage Pittsburgh

Reviews: onStage Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh Tatler, TribLive, Burgh Vivant, Entertainment Central

“[Roosevelt] Watts, Jr. exudes the perfect dose of charm and charisma as befits the successful Wilks. His depiction of the conflict Wilks struggles with conveys his palpable torment. This riveting, stunning, intense and sometimes humorous production tells a timely story. Do not miss this one. Exceptional!”
– Lonnie the Theater Lady, Burgh Vivant

All 2 PM Matinee performances will be inside Madison Arts Center, 3401 Milwaukee Street in the Upper Hill (the same location we’ll use for our other performances in the event of an inclement weather forecast).

When inclement weather is forecast for the performance (or the set-up period before it), we’ll announce that the show has moved to our indoor set at Madison Arts Center (3401 Milwaukee Street). We always announce such venue changes at least two hours before the performance time, and we email all ticketed patrons for that night, post a notice to our Facebook page, and add a note at the top of our home page and on this page. Please check before setting out for the theatre.
